Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 News 12 NBC 26 at 6 O’Clock

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — It was a normal morning for kids, walk to the bus stop with no supervision and no worries.

Until at least two men dressed in all black, wearing clown masks ran from behind a nearby trailer and chased children around. It was behind Amanda Perry’s trailer where some witnesses say the clowns were hiding.

“There was a lot commotion, there was about 20 kids out here waiting for the bus and then sheer panic set in and kids went screaming,” Perry said, “Several children fell, there was clowns going everywhere, there was at least two of them chasing children.”

The screams sent some parents into a panic.

“All I heard was a scream and I was like that’s my boys,” Carisa Frails said, a mother of two who were at the bus stop.

Frails didn’t know what was happening but knew her kids were in trouble.

“Open the back door all I heard them say was there’s somebody chasing us with all black and a clown mask,” she said.

Her two kids didn’t go to school today, one was so afraid, they threw up. Now the whole neighborhood is on high alert. Normally kids walk home by themselves, today a much different sight at the bus stop with a sheriff’s deputy and multiple community members.

“I don’t need for my kids to be scared to walk to the bus stop so now I got to get up and take them and take them to school every morning,” Frails said.

Community members are now stepping up to watch in the morning and afternoons. But what they really want is peace of mind.

“If they do come back it’s not going to be nice because they’re always going to see someone at the bus stop in the mornings and also someone in the evening time, Frails said.

McDuffie Sheriff’s Office is now investigating, saying even if it was a prank, the people behind it could still face criminal charges.

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office has received two reports of clown sightings.

The first call happened at 11:46 p.m. on Sept. 11. A caller reported seeing a clown on State Highway 221 between Hobbs Road and the Jefferson/McDuffie County Line. The caller said the clown was standing beside the road.

On Sept. 13 at 6:37 a.m. another caller reported a clown chased children from a school bus stop in the Davis Circle area. Deputies said they will interview the kids after school Tuesday and have reason to believe it could be someone living in the neighborhood playing a prank. The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office said even if it’s a prank, people could still face charges.

A deputy was dispatched to each of these calls to investigate the sightings but has not been able to develop any new information in the sightings that would lead investigators to the person or persons responsible.

The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office said they take these sightings seriously and will do everything possible to find the suspect or suspects. The sheriff’s office has also said they will arrest anyone making false reports as well but if you see anybody dressed like a clown, take a picture, and report it to the Sheriff’s Office.
