MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — The shock still fresh for Amanda Perry after a call about clowns chasing kids at the bus stop outside her home on Davis Circle.
“That looks like my worst nightmare come true and in full life form, that’s awful,” Perry said.
Knowing two people were caught with this mask nearby brings some relief, even if two teens were not the ones responsible.
“Puts at ease a lot of hearts and souls around here because everybody is really concerned about the kids and nobody believed us, but they’re real,” Perry said.
The incident put the community on high alert. And deputies say it helped one person notice the teens in a car at Walmart with the mask. Leading to the McDuffie Sheriff’s Office citing Joshua Hadden and Christopher Hayes with disorderly conduct. This mug of Hadden is from an arrest back in January.
“It’s dangerous because someone will get hurt behind this, people are afraid for their kids and grand kids and this just can’t go on in this community,” Sheriff Logan Marshall said.
The teens said they were just trying to scare people, but others say their prank went too far.
“Couple of the kids still didn’t go to school this week because they couldn’t shake their nerves, they were too nervous that they were going to see this again,” Perry said.
Even kids that made it to school could not get the image out of their head.
“The small kids at schools this week have been crying at school just afraid,” Marshall said.
The Sheriffs Office is still investigating if the two teens are connected to the Davis Circle incident as well as any others in the county. In the meantime both will be awaiting a court hearing in Mid October.

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two McDuffie County teenagers have been cited for disorderly conduct after investigators said they attempted to scare people by wearing clown masks.
Investigators were called to the scene just before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 to the area near Walmart in Thomson after receiving a report of a person wearing a clown mask inside of a black Chevrolet Tahoe.
A victim told investigators that she saw one of the passengers in the car wearing a clown mask. When she drove up next to the vehicle in the parking lot, the vehicle drove off.
Dispatch ran the tags, and they came back to the father of 18-year-old Christopher Hayes, whom investigators confirmed was driving the vehicle. Hayes’ father said the vehicle was supposed to be at his son’s friend’s house.
When investigators went to the home, they talked with Hayes and 18-year-old Joshua Hadden. Investigators said that Hayes and Hadden initially denied knowing of a mask or driving the Tahoe.
Later, Hadden admitted to wearing the clown mask while Hayes drove the vehicle. Hayes and Hadden told investigators they “did it to scare people and have fun.”
Hayes and Hadden were both charged with disorderly conduct and released to their parents.
The clown mask was found in the Walmart parking lot, where investigators said the subjects threw the mask out the window.
